Cutting-edge hyphenated analytical technology platform dedicated to Impurity Profiling and Metabolite Identification.

The companies Spinnovation Analytical BV, Schering-Plough, Synthon BV, Bruker Biospin Gmbh and the Radboud University have entered into a research collaboration dedicated to the development of new analytical methodologies and tools for Impurity Profiling and Metabolite Identification.

This industrial research project, which includes the investment in a new analytical facility and the financing of a dedicated research staff (6 FTEs: analytical researchers, engineer and technician), focuses on the generation of new knowledge and technologies that will be addressing issues of utmost importance in Pharmaceutical Research, Food Product Development and Molecular Diagnostics. Indeed, impurity profiling and metabolite identification are essential activities in pharmaceutical research as they directly relate to the safety of drug therapy. Furthermore, the technology and knowledge applied to address these issues are not only relevant in the development of new drugs, but are also applicable to the analysis and research of molecules of interest for the food industry, or can be directly applied in the development of new molecular diagnostic tools in clinical research.

Hyphen-ID is an innovative technology platform, which combines the unique capacity and specifications of the latest hyphenated analytical tools (LC-NMR-SPE-MS) with the expertise of top analytical specialists. Spinnovation Analytical BV coordinates the operation of the platform. This insures the implementation of procedures guaranteeing best operating mode (GLP) and the confidentiality required by Industry. The interaction with researchers from the Radboud University (Institute for Molecule and Material, Laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry) further supports the necessary coverage of fundamental research aspects that will be addressed all along the course of the project.

This high-profile research venture was selected in 2007 by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs to receive financial support in view of its innovative contents, challenging ambitions and overall organization. Together, The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Province of Gelderland and the Province of Overijssel are supporting the project by a subsidy ("Pieken in de Delta") to a level of Euro 2 millions (USD 2.9 millions).
